Problems, Decisions, and Advocacy

Being competitive requires new ways of looking and thinking.  Whether it be how to introduce a new product, come up with a more efficient process, design a new system, or improve your customer service, you need to be able to think differently.

Understanding what helps and hinders our thought processes is where this programme begins.  The next step is to understand how groupthink and personality dynamics impact on creative thinking.  With that in mind we go through the process of defining a purpose, exploring the problem and controlling the urge to immediately solve it (easier said than done).  We conclude with tips, tools, and techniques to reach a decision and get things done.

 

This programme is designed for anyone who wants to challenge their thinking and to look at issues or opportunities in a different way.  You’ll leave armed with insight and strategies to bring new ideas to life.  It’s a great add-on to our Planning for and Managing Change programme.

 

Part 1 – CREATIVE THINKING

  • How our brain helps and hinders creative thought

  • Group dynamics and their impact on generating new ideas

  • Finding creative space: place, time, strategies

 

Part 2 – PROBLEM SOLVING PROCESS

  • Balancing creative thinking with a structured process

  • Trying NOT to solve the problem – staying in the exploration phase longer

  • Managing the team dynamics – getting in sync and keeping with the rhythm

 

Part 3 – MAKING DECISIONS

  • Writing SMART objectives – get clear on the desired outcome

  • Risks and returns – methodologies to work them out

  • Agreeing how a decision will be made: consensus, majority, criteria, or is one person in charge?

 

Part 4 – ADVOCATES

  • Building advocates for the idea

  • Planning for change
